On November 25, 2005, the National Flossing Council (NFC) will sponsor a Floss/Food Art competition in Washington, DC as one part of the celebration of National Flossing Day.
Floss/Food Art entered in the competition can include dental floss as part of the work; suggest floss or flossing; or be a food art production that was made largely using floss. Prizes in the competition will be awarded based on the votes of attendees. The winning categories will be Best Looking, Most Creative, and Best Tasting. All entries must be edible.
Food artists who would like to participate should contact the NFC: Floss/(202.544.0711). Entrants from outside the Washington, DC area are encouraged to submit works, but special preference can not be given to shipped submissions.
The National Flossing Council has sponsored National Flossing Day annually for the last five years. Each year National Flossing Day is celebrated the day after Thanksgiving. Last year, the NFC awarded it’s highest media prize, The Flossy, to Ellen DeGeneres for her efforts to promote flossing. Ms. DeGeneres has repeatedly encourage flossing on her daily TV show and in her book, “the funny thing is….”
The National Flossing Council is an all-volunteer organization. To promote floss and flossing, the NFC operates a web site (www.flossing.org) and an online, multimedia journal, “MouthWatch.” The NFC’s logo describes its main goal: “Help Spread Peace of Mouth – Floss.”
Dr. Armand Lione, President of the NFC, said, “We want to see more people floss because they learn that flossing is associated with fun – and we hope everyone will have a lot of fun at our Floss/Food Art Competition.”
